Power

Lately I have been reading the book; 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. It is rumored to be the book that our former President and self proclaimed Professor of Politics loved to borrow heavily from.
I must say its one of the things that attracted me to reading it, I figured that there must be a secret to how farmer number one managed to be so powerful and rule us for 24 straight years.

Most politicians are said to have read it did i say i have no interest in politics and follow it to the letter.

Since am all so generous, but do i say, I will share some of the Laws I found interesting;

Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies especially in work and business.
Be wary of friends  - they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused to envy. They also become spoiled and tyrannical. but hire a former enemy and he will be more royal than a friend, because he has more to prove.

Law 3: Conceal your intentions.
 Keep people off balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guide them far enough down the long path, envelop them in enough smoke, and by the time they realize your intention , it will be too late.

Law 4: Always say less than necessary.
 When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you if you make it vague, open-ended, and sphinx-like did i just drop a vocabulary. Powerful people impress and intimidate by Saying less, Kibaki must have read this. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.

Law 5. So much depends on reputation - guard it with your life.
Reputation is the cornerstone of power. Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once it slips, however, you are vulnerable , and will be attacked on all sides. Make your reputation unassailable. Always be alert to potential attacks and thwart them before they happen. Meanwhile learn to destroy enemies by opening holes in their own reputations. Then stand aside and let public opinion hang them. hmmm no wonder the mud slinging in politics!!

Law 16. Use Absence to Increase respect and honour
Too much circulation makes the price go down: The more you are seen and heard from, the more common you appear. If you are already established in a group. temporary withdrawal from it will make you more talked about, even more admired. You must learn when to leave. Create value through scarcity. this I know only too well

There are 43 more where these came from. I must admit the book is an interesting read and will help you figure what goes on in the mind of the powerful people you know.
My favourite law is Play a sucker to catch a sucker- seem dumber than your mark!!

Signing off...

Jaxon
